Essay #12

a) A divided party government happens when one party is in the presidency and the other controls both chambers of Congress. In a diveded government one party can see the others agenda, it is very hard for a party to carry out its policies. Divided party governments in modern times have changed the way that people vote. A party not being able to make their promises come true has caused voter disillusionment in the democratic system, making them lose trust and confidence in government.
b) When politicians buy their way into office, people lose faith in government and the people who voted for them. People can't think for themselves they have to have the media decide for them sometimes. People are less motivated to vote for someone if they don't have any ideas, or thoughts on government or plans of action and are only successful because they have a lot of money and can buy their way into things.
c) One specific consequence of the decline in trust and confidence in government for individual political behavior os lower voter turnout. When voters don't feel as if they can trust the possible candidates, they are less motivated to vote at all. Party disloyalty for example could be registering or voting as an independent instead of a Republican or Democrat, this is just another consequence.
