2006-2 In recent decades, entitlement programs have constituted a substantial portion of the United States federal budget. Social Security is the largest entitlement program in the US. From the information in the chart above, and your knowledge of the US government and politics, perform the following tasks.
An entitlement program is a government program that guarantees special benefits to a particular group or segment of the population. Entitlement programs are types of government programs that give people financial benefits. These programs are funded by congress and beneficiaries receive money if they meat certain requirements. Tax dollars are the primary source of revenue for the Social Security program. One of the threats to the future of the Social Security program shown on the chart is the fact that by the year 2035, the amount will be less than what is coming in, the government will be giving out more money than is coming in. One demographic trend that also threats the Social Security program is our national population and the percentage of the population that is eligible for social security. This trend is responsible for the threat in question c because more people does not mean that there will be more money coming to the social security program. If the age of eligibility for social security were raised, then the money coming in would definitely go down because the percent of the population receiving aid would decrease because less people would need money.
