2008-1) Congressional reapportionment and redistricting are conducted every ten years. When redistricting is conducted, politicians often engage in gerrymandering.
Congressional reapportionment is the reallocation of the number of representatives that each state has in the House of Representatives. Congressional redistricting is the process of drawing United States electoral district boundaries, often in response to population changes determined by the results of the decennial census. There are many reasons that politicians gerrymander during redistricting, one reason is because politicians want to manipulate the district boundaries to create an advantage for them. When a politician gerrymanders, they do so to make certain that they will win the election, and to take away a good territory for the opposing candidate. The supreme court has put a few limitations on gerrymandering.
