The Philippines Disaster Relief Project

The current situation in the PHilippines is all over the news. A massive typhoon crashed through the country and many are left without clean water, food, power, or shelter.

In my opinion donating money to the Red Cross would be the best idea because they are very reliable. The Red Cross uses 91 cents of every dollar towards the cause that you donate to. The American Red Cross is a great way to help with the Philippines because not only can they help with water, shelter, and food, but they can also help medically because they are the number one place for blood donations.

Another great charity is UNICEF. There were more than 5 million children effected by the typhoon and UNICEF's main focus is to protect and assist the children. The children need shelter, food, medicine, and most of all, clean water. UNICEF's resources in the Philippines are being exhausted but they are very experienced in giving the most help to children and how to keep them safe.

In my opinion, getting the people of the Philippines clean water is the most important task that needs to be achieved. The best way to get clean water to them straight away would be to bring water from immediate areas and filter it on the spot. There are many things that can do this such as: pumps to filter the water, straws that filter the water as you drink it, and drops that you put into the water. The best thing to do would be to find the cheapest invention possible, to give them clean water, have volunteers handing out the clean water, and helping filter it. If we use the cheapest forms of filtering water, we will be able to use more money for medical supplies, shelter, and food for the survivors.

There isn't an obvious answer, or quick solution to helping the victims of this disaster but we are trying our hardest. We have donations, and volunteers, and we will slowly rebuild the Philippines.
